Bomb Tower
The Bomb Tower fires bombs which sit there for a moment and then explode, inflicting blunt damage in a small area. If the attacking hero reaches a bomb before it explodes he kicks it back to the tower. The bomb thens explodes upon reaching the tower, damaging it a little.
Assessment
An exploding bomb can be devastating against a group of weaker units. To protect his or her troops, the attacker is forced to run over the bombs, kicking them back to the tower until it goes down. This is why it's not uncommon for a Bomb Tower to do no damage at all. Its core value lies in its ability to keep a player occupied.
Strengths
If left alone, a Bomb Tower can wreck havoc amongst groups of weaker units, especially knights. Its high range allows it to attack adjacent lanes as well.
Weaknesses
Bomb Towers often miss. In order to do much damage, bombs have to explode in close proximity to a group of attacking units. However, it takes a few seconds for a bomb to explode, which makes it useless when a group just runs past.
Usage and Placement
Bomb Towers work best against tightly packed groups of units. This makes them ideal near places where an advancing band of knights would have to stop to fight a tower, barricade, or blockade. However, in case of a blockage, the player's hero is usually on the front line to kick back bombs anyway. Places, where the hero can run past but troops stop to fight, can be more effective. In this case the player is forced to either protect his or her troops, or risk massive losses.
Due to their high range, Bomb Towers are able to fire across one lane, placing bombs in another one. To take advantage of this, a tower can be placed next to a neighbouring lane. This will mostly hit troops running along this lane, but can make for some additional hits or even force a player back to guard the advance of new troops.
In any case, since bombs need a little time to explode, anything that slows units down, increases the effectiveness of a Bomb Tower. A single Froster or Frost Tower can often help keeping units a little longer within the area of detonation.
