Raiding other players' castles offers a chance to steal part of their Gold Gold and gain other treasures throughout the battle. It's also the main way to get Medals for Leagues. It's possible to gain or lose some Trophies as well.

Before the Attack[]

Any player who is not currently online or inactive (not seen for 7 days) can be attacked. Players from the same Alliance or from the Friends, the list can only perform Test Attacks that will not yield any Gold, Medals, or Trophies. If someone in your alliance tests your defenses, you won't receive a message about it.

To find a suitable target, players can click on the crossed swords on the main screen. The game then suggests a target of +400 or -400 trophies from the player's current trophy level. The suggested opponent can be attacked or a new suggestion can be requested. However, enemies above 700 Trophies from your current trophy position won't give any trophies at all when attacked (as a measure to prevent Trophy Stripping). Therefore, always try to attack players around your Trophy Range.

Besides asking the game for a suggestion, all player names throughout the game have crossed swords beside them - allowing them to be selected and attacked. Any player from the Global Leaderboard list, League list, the Favorites list, and the attacks History can be attacked.

MessageOnline

The in-game Message when someone is currently online

However, an attack will be rejected with a popup message in some circumstances:

  • The opponent is online.
  • The opponent is inactive.
  • Another player is attacking his/her base at that moment.
  • The opponent has upgraded to a newer version of the game and the attacking player hasn't downloaded it yet.
  • In very rare cases it's also possible that an opponent is always reported as online and simply cannot be attacked by the player.

To attack a base more often than once, a player can add the opponent to his/her Favorites List. An opponent can only be attacked 3 times in 1 hour and every attack has a cooldown of Countdown 1 hour.

Your Hero will go into battle with a Pal, Spells, Scrolls, a Guardian, and Units. To help with pal selection, see this article: Pal choices.

Costs[]

To start an attack requires food. The cost increases with the hero's level, peaking at Food 220 Food at Hero Hero Level 93. This food cost can be reduced by using PerkFarmer Farmer perks.

Requesting a new suggestion for a player to attack costs gold, and this also depends on the hero's level. At Hero level 100, a new opponent suggestion costs Gold 4,500 Gold. This cost can be bypassed by attempting to attack an online player. After failing to attack the online player, you will have a new suggested player for a random match. Another way is to fight an event battle. After the battle, a new player will be suggested.

The Victory Percentage[]

Before an attack, the maximum amount of gold, medals, and trophies, that can be taken for a full victory, are displayed. If an attack does not succeed, the reward depends on how far the attacker progressed towards 100%. Gold and medals are awarded proportionally, meaning a 50% victory will yield 50% of the gold and medals. For trophies, there is no way to know in advance what happens in the event of a partial victory. Depending on the opponent's trophy count and the outcome, it is possible to receive less or even lose some trophies.

During an attack, the amount of gold the attacker has already secured is shown, as well as a bar that visually represents the victory percentage. To get a 100% victory, the attacker must destroy every TrapsObstacle, Tower Tower and the Castle Gate Castle Gate itself. However, different sub-goals advance the victory percentage.

The exact formula depends on the complexity of the defense and therefore may be different for smaller defenses or defenses that stay below the currently possible maximums of TowerTowers, Traps Obstacles, or the path length.

With a Castle Gate level 25 the following tests have been calculated:

  • Tower 22 Towers
  • Traps 16 Obstacles
  • IconPath 33 Paths

Reaching the Castle Gate[]

AttackPart1

No matter if you use 11 paths for a straight line base or you use all the paths available for a trickier layout, the game will award you with a 25% victory percentage as soon as you reach the last square in-before attacking the Castle Gate. The game calculates the Hero's progress only every waypoint (1/3 of the path crossed). Therefore in a base without Towers and Obstacles placed you'll get 8% in the first 1/3 of the base, 16% after 2/3 of the base crossed, and 25% at the last square.

At 25% victory percentage you get IconCrown 1 Crown.

Destroying the Obstacles[]

AttackPartResult1
AttackPart1

The destruction of all Towers placed in the base or all Obstacles will always give a 25% completion. Therefore a 50% victory percentage is given when the player destroys all Structures and reaches the Castle Gate without touching it.

At 50% victory percentage you get IconCrown 2 Crowns.

Destroying the Castle Gate[]

AttackPartResult2
AttackPart1

Destroying the Castle Gate gives out 25% of the victory percentage. With the result of before you reach a 75% victory percentage.

Completing the battle[]

AttackPartResult3
AttackPart1

Another 25% is given out immediately after you complete the battle. This means that Castle Gate alone gives 50% of the victory percentage if we consider that the player destroys the gate and gets direct access to the Chamber of Fortune, all this without doing much effort. Being the most important part of a base here it's the reason for this high percentage difference compared to the other sequences.

At 100% victory percentage you get IconCrown 3 Crowns.

IconTipOnly the Hero's progress counts towards the victory percentage, Units alone won't do. However, if they destroy the Castle Gate, a 100% victory is possible (unless the base includes Jester Boxes, which the Hero has to step on himself to trigger and therefore decreases the victory percentage).

Priorities[]

Knowing what will advance the victory percentage allows a player to prioritize his or her actions. This usually becomes important when the time runs out. At this point, the following considerations should be made:

  • Enemy troops do not advance the percentage at all. Therefore, it is better to let the enemy walk towards your tent and focus on structures or the castle gate when very short on time.
  • It's more useful to destroy the Castle Gate than destroying the towers near it. Otherwise, it would lead to a negative impact on the victory outcome.
  • Reaching the Castle Gate and damaging it slightly is better than not touching it at all. The Hero should focus on the gate instead of enemy troops when the time runs out. Any kind of spell, even ones with little effect (for example ToxicCloud Toxic Cloud or Swordrain Swordrain) should be used to maximize the damage.
  • If the game reports a 75% victory this means that the castle gate was just about to fall. The difference between 74.99% (reported as 75%) and 100% is tiny.
  • If the Castle Gate or another waypoint is out of reach, destroying structures is always better than nothing. However, only the destruction counts. Damage alone is irrelevant.

While these considerations won't help much to win the battle itself, they certainly help to get the most out of an attack.

IconInfo In the early days of the game it made a big difference whether a structure survived an attack. This is why many players placed a tower right next to the gate so that it would be ignored by troops. If the gate fell and the tower still stood, the attacker was only awarded a partial victory, far below 100%.

This is no longer the case: a missed tower near the gate now gives 98% or 99% depending on how many towers near the gate are placed. Although it seems like a tiny difference, it can have a big impact on trophies gained and Skulls earned during Alliance Wars and Conquests, affecting the whole alliance result.

Percentage per Structure destroyed[]

In the table below is reported how much an Obstacle is worth 25% for destroying all towers and traps in a base.

Dying in an attack[]

Main article: Resurrection IconResurrection

If you die in an attack, the battle freezes, and a choice is offered between a retreat and a Resurrection. A retreat has no cost, but you probably will lose some trophies. A resurrection costs Gems, but gives you another chance at taking down the Castle Gate, with all the rewards. You can resurrect multiple times in a battle, but the gem price doubles each time. For more information, see the Resurrection page.

After the Attack[]

In addition to the available gold and medals displayed before, bonuses may be added after an attack. For gold, the bonuses from the attacker's items and alliance are added. For medals, a bonus can be added depending on the attacker's rank. The following formulas apply:

  • Total gold = available gold * victory percentage * (item bonus + alliance bonus)
  • Total medals = available medals * victory percentage * medal bonus

The total amount of gold may still be limited by the remaining room in the attacker's Treasure Chamber.

If the attack was successful in bringing down the Castle Gate the player may also enter the Chamber of Fortune, where additional treasures can be won. Most perks don't affect the Chamber of Fortune, unique exception for the Pearl Bonus given thanks to Hans Hans pal which increases the pearls found in the chests.

Being attacked[]

When you are attacked, you receive a message when you next start up the game. You see the number of times you have been attacked and how much gold you lost. If someone used a resurrection potion, you receive a few gems. You can see the average number of crowns your attacker(s) achieved too. The higher the crown percentage the more your base successfully blocked the opponents' attacks. On the contrary, the fewer crowns are shown, the more work you'll have to do on your base. You also get the option to take revenge on the attacker(s) or you can choose to do that later on in the History tab.

Being online whilst under attack[]

If you log on whilst you are under attack, you will see this icon IconUnderAttack in the left top corner, next to your gold counter. When you click on it, you'll see the Advisor swearing and saying how much gold they are trying to get.

When the attack is over, the Advisor will tell you how much gold you managed to save.
