“ | The Gargoyle is not bound by path borders and flies to its target directly. Defeat it quickly before it sets off its deadly payload! | „ |
Description[]
The Gargoyle is the second monster a player can find in the Dungeon. Like a suicide bomber, the creature's only goal is to reach enemy troops or structures and blow them up.
Behavior[]
Even though gargoyles can cross path borders, they only do so to attack. Unless there's an enemy in sight, they will not cross but move along the path like everyone else. This behavior effectively means that a gargoyle is a ranged unit (at least in cross-lane combat). Even though they appear to fly, gargoyles cannot fly over other units. They can get stuck behind other troops like any other unit.
When gargoyles encounter an enemy, they move towards their target, accelerate, and drop their bomb. The explosion then instantly kills the gargoyle.
If a gargoyle is killed before it can drop off its bomb, the bomb just sinks into the ground without exploding.
Gargoyles always ignore Spikes. They are unaffected as they just hover over them.
Gargoyles also ignore enemy gargoyles and won't attack them directly. However, if a gargoyle explodes near an enemy gargoyle, the enemy gargoyle takes damage just like any other unit.
Once a gargoyle has reached its target and started its throwing animation, if the target moves out of range then the gargoyle will abort the throw and seek a new target (possibly the original one if the original target has not moved too far away). However, it is possible to make the gargoyle explode on a space if you move just before the gargoyle drops its bomb. Normally only the hero can escape a gargoyle attack and even then the hero would need assistance such as speed boots or Time Warp. This makes it possible for a hero to deal with gargoyles using Bladestorm or sonic blast by running just close enough to catch the gargoyles with the spell then running away with enhanced speed. By the time the gargoyles have aborted the throw then started a new one they would be dead. It is also possible to use the stun spell just before they attack, and you can finish them off before they have a chance to harm the hero or any of his units. This tactic is recommended for low-level heroes.

Defensive Strategies[]
Put your first wave only consisting of gargoyles to drain the enemy's health right off the bat. It is also important to synchronize your strongest towers(such as Lightning Towers) with a gargoyle storm to kill the attacking hero to receive trophies(from loss of battle) or gems(from resurrection).
Bizarre Gargoyle Facts[]
Some strange facts about the gargoyle :
- Gargoyle Friendly Gate - For some reason, the Castle gate never targets/shoots arrows at attacking gargoyles.
- Gargoyle Friendly Ogres - Ogres in defense & attack also never attempt to hit gargoyles.
- Stubborn Spikes - Gargoyle bombs strangely do not affect spikes whatsoever. Even though it's true, that Gargoyles always ignore spikes & never attempt to drop their bomb on them, in some instances it might happen. For example, if an attacking gargoyle spots an enemy unit standing next to or on a spike/ or a barricade placed next to Spikes, it will drop its bomb on the unit/barricade. Given the AoE-type nature of the bomb explosion, it would make sense that both the unit/barricade & the spikes take damage. However, the spikes will remain unaffected.
- Resurrecting Gargoyles - In a unique scenario, a dead gargoyle will come back to life & start celebrating, even after exploding its bomb. This special scenario happens, when the castle gate is down to very low HP, so much so that one attack from a gargoyle would be enough to finish it off. As soon as this last gargoyle explodes its bomb at the gate, it will die (as usual). However, immediately after it will resurrect back to life & start celebrating with the hero!
