General Assessment
The froster is the first caster you are able to create. His low hitpoints renders him very fragile. The slowing effect of his attack is useful on defense.
Defense
The frosters are the best defensive unit. His attack is not particularly strong, however it affects all units in the area where it hits. It has a secondary effect of slowing the units it damages. The secondary effect is what can make this unit valuable. It appears that stronger units are less affected than weaker ones. Knights are slowed roughly 75% for 4-5 seconds. Since the Knights are in front, slowing a group of them can effectively stop the enemy assault in its tracks. Stronger units are less severely affected. A hero might slow only 25%.
As the froster doesn't do huge amounts of damage and is extremely vulnerable to any attack due to his low hitpoints, it is recommended that he play a supporting role in defensive waves rather than a primary one. One or maybe two frosters mixed in with other troop types can be valuable. A froster's use is primarily his ability to attack an adjacent lane where he is safe from melee and may be safe from low range spells. If your defensive path does not permit adjacent lane attacks, consider using other units.
Note that the slowing effect of the froster also affects the attack rate of enemy units. Therefore a froster attacking across a lane can significantly decrease the effectiveness of the attacker's ranged units
Attack
It is a common misconception that the froster is a bad attacking unit & that it should be only used as a defensive troop. This is not true. Anyone who has used the froster in attack will know it is an excellent attacking unit. Its slowing effect on enemies is invaluable because it greatly decrease dps of enemy troops & towers, therefore increasing survivability of friendly troops & your hero. It also has pretty long range & is effective in lane to lane combat. The froster is also extremely fast & has a very high rate of attack. At a morale cost of 3 they are not that expensive & can be summoned fairly quickly. Like any other unit, its necessary to upgrade it to max to realize its true potential.
Frosters are very effective in destroying towers with a weakness to ice like the skull tower, gargoyle tower & also blockades. The castle gate even though has no mentioned weakness to ice goes down fairly easily when confronted by a group of frosters. Frosters also manage to destroy low to mid level firebolt towers easily. However die quickly to high level firebolt towers, in which case it would be better to use a pyromancer.
Froster is also highly effective against units, slowing them down & dealing damage & the same time. Units with a weakness to ice (except the pyromancer because of its huge hp) die quickly when confronted by frosters. Frosters are especially deadly against werewolves.
The true strength of frosters shine in combination with other high dps troops, like canons, archers & arblasters. The frosters slows down enemies while the other units & the hero take them out.
Very effective against monsters, slows them down so other units like arblasters can finish them off.

War Boost (Dragofroster)
The Dragofroster with the biggest amount of Dragon Power (the strongest one) is sucking in all Dragon Power from surrounding Dragofrosters. This can be observed as a purple Dragon Power transfer effect. The Dragofroster will grow in size, increase its maximum HP and do additional Damage based on the amount of Dragon Power it owns. Once the Dragofroster has collected enough Dragon Power it will transform into a mighty Ice-Dragon.
